AMPLIFIER have withdrawn from the SUMMERS END FESTIVAL due to take place at the Town Hall, Lydney from October 7th - 9th. This is due to "technical differences".
SUNCHILD have also been forced to withdraw owing to visa problems; but they have now been booked to appear in 2012.
The excellent CREDO and Antony Kalugin/John Sloman have been drafted in as replacements.
Sunchild not being able to obtain visas I can take; but the situation with Amplifier stinks of the band thinking that they are are bigger than the festival.
If I am wrong then I apologise whole heartedly.
At least we have the superb CREDO to look forward to and also the legendary John Sloman (I am now going to dig out my Lone Star LP's).
The following has appeared on the official Amplifier website...
It is with regret that we must announce our withdrawal from "Summersend" Festival on Friday October 8th.This is down to technical disagreements between the band and the organisers of the event being too large to overcome.Regardless, we would encourage people still to attend this exciting and unique UK event. We wish the organisers good luck with Summersend Festival and hope that it continues to go from strength to strength.
The full statement from the organisers of Summers End reads as follows...
Running a festival is never easy, and we are sorry to announce a couple of pieces of bad news with just 10 days to go!
Firstly, it is with huge regret that we announce that Amplifier will not now be playing the festival. This is as a result of irresolvable technical issues between the Festival and the band. We apologise to all those looking forward to seeing them, and wish the band every success for the future.Holders of Friday evening tickets only have been contacted separately.
Secondly, Sunchild will not now be able to play due to the refusal of visas for some of the band. We know that the guys are as gutted as we are that they cannot play, so we are happy to announce that they will be joining us in 2012, visa's permitting!
In the meantime, we are very pleased to announce that Antony Kaluginof Sunchild, who is still able to make the Festival, will play a special acoustic set on Friday night with something of a legendary guest, the amazing John Sloman of Lonestar and Uriah Heep fame. This unique collaboration will hopefully help compensate fans for the loss of both bands.
In their Sunday slot we are thrilled to announce that Credo have agreed to play the Festival at short notice. The band have received some superb reviews for their third album "Against Reason" and have combined that with some amazing live shows in 2011. We welcome them back after their wonderful set way back in 2006! www.credo.gb.com

R.E.M. have called it a day after around 31 years in the business.
The following statement from the group was posted on the band's website...
"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."
The split comes soon after the group released their fifteenth album, "Collapse Into Now", with the band, at the time, deciding that they wouldn't tour in support of the record.
Mike Mills said of the split..
"We have always been a band in the truest sense of the word. Brothers who truly love and respect each other. We feel kind of like pioneers in this - there's no disharmony here, no falling-outs, no lawyers squaring off. We've made this decision together, amicably and with each other's best interests at heart."
R.E.M., based in Georgia, have sold more than 85million albums in their career and achieve a massive eight number one albums in the UK.
Their farewell to the fans will be a brand new hits collection, which will be released in November.

Amanda Somerville's new band project TRILLIUM will release, "Alloy", at the beginning of November via Frontiers Records.
The press release is as follows...
Frontiers Records is pleased to announce the release of “Alloy”, the anticipated debut album from TRILLIUM the new Metal Project masterminded by American Singer Songwriter Amanda Somerville on November 4th in Europe and November 1st in North America. “Alloy” is an album that's charged with emotion and exploration and a very personal statement from Amanda and certainly the listener can enjoy very different musical atmospheres on the album “Since I'm an eclectic and diverse person and musician, that certainly comes out in this album” says Amanda. “I think that the diversity is what is going to set this album apart from other stuff that's out there right now. It's got big choruses and epic symphonic hits, guitar solos you could imagine being played on a mountain top with an aerial camera view, but it's also got a lot of soul added to the raise-your-fists-in-the-air-and-make-a-mean-face vibe”. Musically TRILLIUM melts Rock and Metal in a new, interesting and different way from anything Amanda has worked on so far. “Alloy” is also graced with the talents of several musicians with whom Amanda had the honor of working in the past. Sander Gommans (ex AFTER FOREVER, HDK) and Sascha Paeth (KAMELOT, AVANTASIA, EPICA, AFTER FOREVER etc) were the main songwriters together with the American singer on this album. They have brought a lot to the project and have certainly allowed the sound to be a lot richer and stronger. “Sander is all around an awesome songwriter and guitar player, and he's especially good at coming up with riffs and movements of a song, while Sascha is a fantastic producer who can play any instrument there is - and play the hell out of it - and his sense of songwriting is really strong!” tells Amanda. Other contributing musicians include Miro Rodenberg who did all of the orchestral and keyboard arrangements, Robert Hunecke on drums, Olaf Reitmeier on acoustic guitar, Simon Oberender on keyboards (and mastering). But more surprises are on this record: “Working with Mat Sinner on KISKE-SOMERVILLE established a solid professional relationship and I also found a good friend in him” says Amanda. “We co-wrote "Love Is An Illusion" together for this album and it was a pleasure working with him once again!” And last, but in no way least, Jorn Lande has lent his epic voice to the song "Scream It." Ms. Somerville tells the story: “I actually wrote that song with Jorn in mind not for his status in the scene, but because I absolutely love his voice, he's a wonderful friend of mine through working together on Avantasia and he was the perfect "actor" to play the character in the song. And he nailed it!” With touring plans in Europe in the first quarter of 2012 and a rousing excitement surrounding Trillium, you can bet the world is finally ready to enjoy the talents of one of the most interesting, creative and gifted singers and songwriters of today’s entire Rock scene. “Alloy” will be exclusively released in a lavish digipak cd edition and will include the following songs:Machine Gun; Coward; Purge; Utter Descension; Bow To the Ego; Mistaken; Scream It; Justifiable Casualty; Path of Least Resistance; Into The Dissonance; Slow It Down; Love Is An Illusion*. *bonus track While a videoclip for the song “Coward” is in the works, you can now enjoy a video presentation of the album following this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7KQITdzezc Stay tuned for more exciting news regarding TRILLIUM !
