DREAM THEATER Announce Their New Drummer At Last

MIKE MANGINI has been announced officially as the new drummer of DREAM THEATER.

Mike is a 48-year-old session artist who has played for ANNIHILATOR, EXTREME, JAMES LABRIE and STEVE VAI .
He is the replacement for the recently departed Mike Portnoy.

Commented Mangini...
The day that I got the phone call to be in Dream Theater, it took my brain a minute to assemble what was going on, and when it sank in, the feeling was just of tremendous relief.

It means so much to me, I almost felt like crying a couple of times. (Laughs) I didn't know what to do.

What it means to me to be part of not only such a legendary band, but this band, is a sense of fulfillment and purpose. I feel like a puzzle piece, and with Mike Portnoy in particular, I feel really honored to carry on the torch for him; I'm carrying on hisspirit.
The following drummers were auditioned...
Aquiles Priester (age 39) - ANGRA, PAUL DI'ANNO
Peter Wildoer (age 36) - DARKANE
Marco Minnemann (age 40) - KREATOR, NECROPHAGIST, EPHEL DUATH, JOE SATRIANI
Virgil Donati (age 52) - PLANET X, SEVEN THE HARDWAY
Derek Roddy (age 38) - HATE ETERNAL, NILE, TODAY IS THE DAY
Mike Mangini (age 48) - STEVE VAI, EXTREME, ANNIHILATOR
Thomas Lang (age 43) - JOHN WETTON, ROBERT FRIPP, GLENN HUGHES

AGENT STEEL Post New Song Online

"Tomb Of Ra", a brand new song from USA metallers AGENT STEEL, can be streamed below.

The song features lead vocalist Rick Mythiasin (Steel Prophet) and was recorded and engineered by Bill Metoyer and mixed and mastered by Bernie Versailles.

The band recently cancelled its reunion performance with singer John Cyriis at the 14th annual Keep It True festival (April 29-30, 2011 at Tauberfrankenhalle in Lauda-Königshofen, Germany).
Guitarist Juan Garcia subsequently released a statement in which he denied "false rumors in the press" that Rick Mythiasin was the new singer of Agent Steel,  insisting that Rick simply "filled in" for Cyriis at the inaugural 70,000 Tons Of Metal cruise and "did a tremendous job."

The organizer of the KEEP IT TRUE festival has now invited the band members to still perform, but under a different moniker (MASTERS OF METAL), and singer Rick Mythiasin has been officially invited as the vocalist to join the band onstage (Friday).

NIGHTWISH Begin Recording Vocals For New Album

NIGHTWISH Singer, Anette Olzon, has started recording vocals for the band's forthcoming new album.

Recording for,  "Imaginarium", began on April 4th after being postponed for a few weeks in order to allow Anette a longer recovery period after she suffered broken ribs in a fall.

Photos from the studio can be viewed on Olzon's official blog HERE.

The CD should be released in early 2012.

Nightwish are also planning a movie of the same name to be directed by Stober Harju and produced by Solar Films.

The first single off the album as well as the trailer for the film should be released during the latter part  of this year.
