Heart To Be Honoured In LA

The Wilson sisters from HEART are to be honoured by one of the America's leading songwriting groups.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers will give their prestigious Founders Award to the sisters for their songwriting over the past 35 years.

"Their success and influence helped pave the way for other female artists," said ASCAP president and chairman Marilyn Bergman. "They continue to build their musical legacy with an artistic energy that remains as strong today as when they first started out over 35 years ago."

Ann and Nancy will receive their award at a ceremony set for April 22nd. It is customary for the winners of the Founders Award to perform at the event, although this has not been been confirmed as yet.

THE 5TH SUMMERS END FESTIVAL

The 5th Summers End Festival will take place on October 9th/10th/11th at Lydney Town Hall in Gloucestershire.
This is the same venue as last year and I must say what a great venue it is.

Festival founder Huw Lloyd Jones & Co-organiser Stephen Lambe will certainly have their work cut out to equal the quality of the bands that we saw at last year's event.
However I am sure that they will come very close and that is why I have booked my accommodation already.

The first two bands booked for the Festival are...

Parallel or 90 Degrees have announced that after a long hiatus they have reformed for a brand new album “Jitters” and some live dates. This follows the success of their Double CD retrospective “A Can of Worms” released last year. The band presents a harder edged, more contemporary sound than Andy Tillison’s other project, the Tangent, who made a triumphant headline appearance last year. The band will have a prominent slot at this years Festival.
www.po90.com
www.myspace.com/po90degrees

Godsticks will occupy one of the weekend’s opening slots. Based in South Wales, this unique 3 piece impressed us with their music which combines prog with fusion, pop and just a touch of funk. Their great songwriting and outstanding musicianship can be heard on the bands 5 track self-titled EP, available from their MySpace site.

Further details of the Festival will be announced very soon.

As well as the main Festival website www.summersend.co.uk (updating soon) all the news as it happens will be posted at...

AFTER FOREVER Split - 1995 to 2009

I know this item is nearly a week old; but I have just found out the very sad news that Dutch symphonic power metal band AFTER FOREVER have split up.

After Forever was formed in 1995 under the name Apocalypse, playing death metal music.
When vocalist Floor Jansen joined the band in 1997 their style shifted to a more gothic metal sound in order to compliment her voice.

They released the following albums...
Ephemeral (demo - 1999)
Wings Of Illusion (demo - 1999)
Prison Of Desire (CD - 2000)
Decipher (CD - 2002)
Exordium (MCD - 2003)
Invisible Circles (CD - 2004)
Remagine (CD - 2005)
Mea Culpa (Compilation - 2006)
After Forever (CD - 2007)
Prison Of Desire (The Album - The Sessions) (CD - 2008)

The following was posted on their website on February 5th...

"Dearest Fans,

After nearly 15 years and with heavy hearts, we have decided to call an end to a great and exciting time as After Forever. We are extremely proud of what we have accomplished, and especially of the road we took to get here. After Forever has never been a band that repeated itself; we always tried out new things, even though many of them were certainly done at a risk. We think that that has been one of the reasons we’ve always enjoyed enormous support from all our loyal fans.

The break we took in 2008 made us appreciate all the more what we’d experienced. Now more than ever, we can look back on so many fantastic moments, something we never would have expected to be part of when we started the band all those years ago.

However, that break also made us aware of the fact that we can only continue After Forever with the energy, the full 110%, that we have always put into it and we’ve noticed lately that there is something missing. We have always been musicians who create music with lots of passion, and during the break we built up our own lives again and have been musically active and experimenting in several genres.

Although After Forever is very special to us, we feel that we have reached the point where we need to explore the world of music in each of our own different ways. Thus, we’ve decided to quit while we’re ahead. We are sincerely proud of every CD; each album represents a unique period, and all comes together in our last album "After Forever," which made all of our dreams possible. We hope After Forever will continue to be a source of inspiration for new bands and musicians alike so that our music can live on.

As band members, but also as friends, we’ve experienced so very much; highs and lows, good times and bad. We'll keep supporting each other in all of our various individual projects and continue inspiring one another in making music.

Our MySpace page www.myspace.com/afterforever will be used for updates on all of these projects and of course After Forever-related news, as well.

You can be sure that this is not an easy decision for any of us. We'd like to thank all of our fans for their support, also during the break.

We know that this will be a big disappointment to you, dear fans, and it makes it that much harder for us. You have always given us your all and it was our pledge, in turn, always to give at least as much back to you for as long as we exist. In this moment, that’s unfortunately just not possible, so we'd rather leave you all the albums and gigs we achieved with maximum input. We'd also like to thank Nuclear Blast, TEG and MOJO for their patience and enthusiasm, the live crew, the fan club, the fan sites and everybody who's helped in every way possible.

We'll miss you all.

Most Sincerely,
Floor, Sander, Joost, Bas, Andre and Luuk
After Forever"

THEY WILL BE SADLY MISSED.

Vote For IRON MAIDEN by Saturday

I am still recovering from the shock of it being announced that IRON MAIDEN had been nominated for "Best Live Act" at the poppy Brit Awards.

The inclusion of Iron Maiden is certainly a surprise and the chances of them actually winning the award, previously decided by a group of judges, looked slim.

However, this year you can help put this right as now this year’s "Best Live Act" award is down to a public vote, which means that you can win Iron Maiden this award.

Voting is now open and closes at 17.00 GMT on Saturday 7th February.
Please get voting!
